Savory Garlic Swirl Bread
I’ve always felt like making your own bread seems much more intimidating than it actually is. As a child, I remember my grandmother making fresh biscuits almost every, single night. I adored going over to her house and eating buttery, fluffy biscuits with her homemade soup. I made a slow cooker pot roast soup variation of that recipe over on my other blog. I believe it would pair nicely with this Garlic Swirl Bread.
If you are nervous about making bread for the first time, don’t be. I mean, what is the worst that can happen? It could be gross. That’s it. So what. No one started out a 5 star chef. Just throw it out and try again. It’s not the end of the world. I believe in you. You got this!
Savory Garlic Swirl Bread
Ingredients:
2 cup self-rising flour
1 cup buttermilk
1 tbsp dry yeast
3 cloves garlic
8 tbsp butter
½ tbsp salt
6 tbsp fresh or dry parsley
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. In a medium sized bowl mix dry ingredients together: flour, yeast, and salt.
3. Add buttermilk and 1 tablespoon of butter. Mix everything using a spatula until you form a small ball dough. Put it aside somewhere warm for about 1 hour.
4. When the dough has doubled its size, transfer it to a flat surface. Sprinkle the dough ball with flour. Using a rolling pin, roll dough into a 16×10 inch rectangle.
5. In a separate bowl, combine remaining butter, freshly chopped garlic and parsley. Transfer mixture onto the dough and, using a fork or knife, spread it evenly. Roll the dough into a log.
6. Cut the log of dough in half and braid it like pictured above, then coil the rope into an “S” shape, as shown above. Transfer into a medium sized loaf pan.
7. Bake for 35 minutes at 350F. Poke a toothpick in the center to make sure your loaf is thoroughly done. It will come out clean if fully cooked. Enjoy!
